One of the most popular forms of pet fashion is that which is made for dogs. Canine fashion is huge in the pet supplies industry, particularly for the smaller breeds of dogs such as miniature poodles and Chihuahuas. It is not uncommon to see a dog being walked by its owner, complete with a diamante studded collar and lead and perhaps even a vest or jumper. Movies such as Legally Blonde have certainly helped with the acceptance of doggie fashion, as the movie’s main character Elle dressed her dog in incredibly out-there outfits that included hats and shoes.
Some of the most common sorts of pet fashion for dogs include scarves, neck-ties, hats (with ear-holes of course!), jumpers, leggings, and even tail-socks! Even the collars don’t escape untouched, with studs, diamantes, crazy stitching, and even the name of the dog being incorporated into the collar. All of the products come in all colours, shapes and sizes, with popular fabrics including tartan, animal print, pink and blue (depending on the sex of the dog), and funny sayings or statements.
Although dog fashion may seem frivolous or funny, there are instances where it can be a necessary part of keeping your dog healthy and happy. In areas that traditionally have hard winters or permanent cold weather, dogs with thin bodies, short hair, or no hair at all can really suffer. Just like humans that rug up in winter, your dog may need to be kept warm with a woolly jumper or hat. |
